Good morning everybody. This weekend we hold the Work Boat Races on Grand Anse Beach. If you are not familiar with this event there are a number of images for you to look at and enjoy here on my website.
https://www.straleyphotography.com/grenada-workboatI love this event and try to attend every year because I love to record and capture t the expressions on people’s faces as they are prepping their boat for the sailing race. This occurs on Saturday morning with the actual races beginning usually sometime around noon and going through Sunday afternoon with parties on the beach on Saturday evening.
Boats are entered from many of the villages here in Grenada and in Carriacou and are converted for the weekend from fishing boats with a motor on them to a sailing boat for the race. The villages race against each other and then the winners from each village race against each other. The rum and other libations everyone drinks certainly can add to the excitement as people progress through the day!
I’d invite you to join me on the beach to see how it goes for everyone as they prepare their boats by attaching masts to their boats and rig them with rudders, ballast and other things for the race. I personally love the expressions on people’s faces as they try to remember exactly how they did it last year and what improvements they contemplated over the past year.
So my plan is to be there about 9AM and I will plan to wear a bright yellow shirt with a camera or two strapped around my neck – It would be great if you’d attend and say hello to me. There are vendors who would be serving drinks and food and usually there is music and other vendors selling jewelry and clothing – that kind of stuff.
You’ll be able to see my version of the images on the website within several days and If you are more into the racing part vs the people part of this event – they will be other photographers there sharing their images of the event as well.
In any event take a look at what we have done in the past – I bet you’ll get a kick out of it! Hope so anyway.
